MEMORIES FROM THE 2008 EVENT!!

Over a month has past since the 2008 event and life has gotten back to some normalcy in our homes. We aren't "officially" planning the 2009 event until January, according to our families, but we did spend today out at the BC Creative Expo chatting with some of the sponsors and teachers from this year's event and also chatting with some potential new sponsors for 2009.

We would also like to thank those of you who have taken the time to email us about the 2008 event. Your kind words, your encouragement and your comments and suggestions on different aspects of the event is so appreciated. We are taking all comments and suggestions into consideration and look forward to an even better event in 2009.

Thank you to all the people who answered our call for photos from the 2008 event. We have been able to put together a fabulous slideshow of memories (below). You may want to sit back, grab a coffee and spend some time checking out all these fabulous photos, they are amazing memories indeed.

Thank you,

Mary & Sandra

WE DID IT!

Thanks to your attendance and participation this past weekend, the 2008 BC Scrapbooking Crop For Kids has raised, to date:
$22,100
for BC Children's Hospital Foundation.

We are both exhausted and elated by the weekend activities and are lacking the words at the moment to express how grateful we are for the help from our friends and volunteers, our sponsors and class instructors, and from you -- the attendees.

We are thrilled, honoured, touched, moved and inspired by all your positive feedback and kind words. Thank you especially to those who took the time to share your stories about Children's Hospital and other organizations that have helped your sick and special children. It makes the event all the more meaningful when we know that what we are doing is making a difference to you.

As exhausted as we are, (and there's still more work to be done!), we thought it was important to let you know right away that we are ready to do it all again in 2009!

Mark your calendars for:
October 23 to 25, 2009
Ramada Conference Centre & Hotel
Abbotsford, BC

There are so many special kids that will benefit from what BC Crop For Kids is doing. Stay tuned for details about the charity organization(s) that will be the recipient of your generosity in 2009.

Sincerely,

Sandra & Mary

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ATTENDEES**

With the clock ticking down, we'll be taking the online store and registration offline on Wednesday. This will allow us to focus on the last of the details. With just 2 more "preparation" days left before the BC Crop for Kids, we may not be able to answer your emails in a timely manner. And we won't be available by email after 9pm on Thursday, Sept 25.

Please review your newsletters for ALL the details regarding times, dates, locations, directions, procedures surrounding the big event this weekend. We know there has been alot to take in all at once! If you don't think you've received the emails, PLEASE ask a friend to forward them to you!

You can help us make the registration process as smooth as possible for everyone. There are 180 croppers (plus volunteers, teachers, sponsors, and class-only guests) and we thank you in advance for your patience while we welcome everyone.

Here's a quick recap of the vital info:

Registration opens at 6:00PM on Friday Sept 26. No early birds please.

If you are registered for a 6:00PM class on Friday, you may register at 5:30PM. This is for class attendees only. We ask that other members of your party please wait to register at 6:00PM so we can process the early class attendees first. Thanks for understanding.

Guaranteed check in time at the hotel is 3:00PM. Please use the HOTEL ENTRANCE for checking into your rooms, and the CONFERENCE CENTRE ENTRANCE for the crop. (the 2 are connected, and once you are registered and have your name badge you may use the alternate entrance to go back and forth between them. This entrance will be monitored for the security of our guests.)

Outside food not permitted. Sorry, hotel policy. If you are bringing in meals from surrounding restaurants or from home, these must be eaten in your hotel room. Please be discreet with prepackaged snacks and no fast food drink cups please. (what you fill your water bottle or travel mug with are up to you!)

Thank you all, and see you on Friday!

WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT?

We're coming up on FIVE DAYS before the big weekend!! Are you excited???

I know I'm excited!!! Sandra is away working at a retreat this weekend and I'm sitting here working on class lists, itineraries and other stuff for the event weekend. As I'm working away I'm in awe of how quickly time flew by and am getting excited about the weekend.

I want to hear what you're excited about and I'm giving a RAK away to someone just for telling me how excited you are!!!!

I haven't been doing much scrapbooking lately (understandably) and my stash is starting to get a little overgrown so one lucky person will win a grab bag of goodies from my overgrown stash of supplies!!!

Here are those pesky rules:

1. Post a comment on this post by Thursday, September 25 at 4:oo PM and tell us what you're excited about!

2. To be eligible to win you must be attending the event.

3. The winner will be announced on Thursday, September 25 after 4:00 PM.

The winner will given their grab bag of scrapbooking goodies at the event.

See you all next weekend,

Mary

SCAVENGER HUNT!

Did you read about it in our last two newsletters? We are so excited to announce this exciting scavenger hunt sponsored by some of our amazing store sponsors.

The scrapbook stores that are participating in the scavenger hunt are:

Cherish The Thought
Clipper Street Scrapbook Company
I'm Impressed Paper Arts Ltd.
Memory Workshop Scrapbook Co.
Photo Express
Scrapbook City
Scrapbooker's Delight

Each event attendee will be emailed a personalized scavenger hunt stamp/punch card with a list of the participating Lower Mainland scrapbook stores. Please do not contact the stores to obtain a card, you will receive your card by email from BC Scrapbooking Crop for Kids in September.

A prize will also be provided to the first person who submits a card with stamps from ALL participating stores.

Updated Class Photos and Fun Stuff!!!

Kate from Photo Express has provided us with some updated class photos for her "Faith-Full" Scrapbooking class. The class runs from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, September 27. To register or see the updated class photos please check out our website here.

Kate also provided us with some additional info about the class itself:

"Each class kit will include the following:

  • All the papers needed to create these 3 layouts (colours may vary amongst kits; all patterned papers are from the My Mind’s Eye Everyday Tango line) – all the pieces will be cut to size – you just need to assemble and enhance the layouts with inking, stamping & journaling.
  • 12x12 Share & Tell photo insert pages for storing extra photos alongside each of your 3 layouts.
  • a colour handout with step-by-step instructions for assembling your layouts.
  • an inspirational handout filled with various bible references and quotes perfect for bringing God into your scrapbook pages

I will be setting up a stamping and titling station in the classroom with a variety of stamps (Fancy Pants, Inkadinkado, Hero Arts & Making Memories) plus my QuicKutz tools and alphabets so that everyone can customize their pages with their own titles and designs. This makes the pages totally customizable depending on the photos that you have in mind."

Kate is so excited about this class as she will be incorporating the Pebbles Inc. Share n' Tell System into the class. With this class you will be receiving 3 - 12x12 Share n' Tell pages from Pebbles Inc. to slot in extra photos along side the 3 layouts you will be completing in this class.

Here is some additional info on the Share n' Tell System:

The Share & Tell 12x12 Album from Pebbles Inc. offers simple ways to organize your photos and display them beautifully. You decide how much time you have to spend….

No Time
Simply label your photos and slip them into the 4x6 pocket protectors that come with your album. In our busy and hectic lives, sometimes just printing our photos and getting them into an album is a huge success. And let’s face it, not all our photos need to be scrapbooked (nor is it actually realistic or feasible to scrapbook every photo you take). The photo sleeves are perfect for those photos that need to be preserved, but don’t necessarily pull at your heart or beg to be scrapbooked.

Some Time
Create simple 4x6 titles and journaling cards to help tell your story. Pebbles Inc. sells 4x6 creative pads and journaling cards as a quick and easy way to add memories to your photos, or create your own using cardstock and patterned paper scraps from previous projects. This is an awesome solution to those photos that are best accompanied by a bit of journaling and a title, but don’t necessarily inspire you to scrapbook a whole layout.

Creative time
And when you’ve taken a photo that knocks your socks off, or truly speaks to the moment that you were trying to capture, you can then take the time to create a layout that spotlights that special memory. All your extra photos from that event can then be slipped into a 4x6 photo sleeve and stored right beside your layout. How brilliant is that?!. This memory keeping technique allows you to focus your creative energies on only the very best photos, instead of trying to figure out how to fit all 16 birthday shots onto a double page spread!

CLASS KITS ARE STARTING TO ARRIVE!!

Things are starting to get very exciting and now that class kits are now starting to arrive the fact that the event is not all that far away is VERY REAL!!!

One of the first sets of kits to arrive was the Halloween Chipboard Mini Album designed and sponsored by Sharka Leigh of PaperCapers. These kits just blew me away!! Sharka did such a fabulous job of cutting and organizing everything!! This album has great dimension and texture in it and it is absolutely adorable. Sharka has outdone herself with this project and it's one you will not want to miss out on.

The class runs from from 9:45 PM to 11:15 PM on Friday, September 26th. You can see more photos of the project and register for the class here on the BC Scrapbooking Crop for Kids website.

Remember the majority of the classes offered can be taken away as a kit to work on later so if you don't have time to take the class you can always sign-up and take the kit home with you!!!

IT'S TIME TO GET PACKING

Get packing. Now. Don't wait till the last minute! There's still plenty of time, and we can help!

Why the urge to pack early and pack well? We must stress that space is at a premium at this event. Everyone will have 3 feet of table space. We've asked for as much room as possible between the table rows for people to come and go freely. This doesn't leave a whole lot of room for everyone to bring everything they own just in case.

To help ease the load, here are a few tips for planning and packing efficiently:
  • Plan ahead. Decide before you go which projects/pages you will work on. Be realistic about what you can accomplish in the time you have.

  • Make up page kits for the layouts you plan to work on. There are paper folders available just for this purpose. (ziploc bags are an economical - but less durable - alternative)

  • Bring only the tools you need. You'll need your essential tools of course, and the tools & adhesives specified in your classes, and then the ones you'll need for the projects you have planned. Keep all your tools together in one place for easy transition from crop room to classrooms.

  • Coordinate tools with a friend. Plan to bring one Crop-A-Dile, and one QuicKutz (the bulky, heavy stuff) to share between you.

  • Don't forget your photos!

Here's a link to a very helpful link for how to pack for a crop or retreat courtesy of The Memory Workshop.

Goodie Bags Galore

Today was the day we assembled goodie bags!!! Oh my, I have to say the group of ladies we had was absolutely amazing. We were a little worried when we saw how much stuff we actually had but the ladies were so efficient in putting the bags together.

First off, I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Di of Remember Me Scrapbooking for offering her space for our use.

Secondly, I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the fabulous ladies who helped us out:

Kate
Lois
Chriss
Alzira (and helper, I'm sorry I didn't get her name)
Lorna
Jessica
Tamsin
Suzann
Di

Thirdly, a huge THANK YOU goes out to the FABULOUS sponsors who generously donated items to the goodie bags.

It took us just under two hours from start to finish to get everything unpacked from our vehicles, organized, inserted into bags and then repacked into our vehicles. I might add we needed an extra vehicle to get everything home. Thanks Suzann!!

So here is a little sneak peak for you of what you'll be getting if you are a registered crop seat attendee!!

We are extremely appreciative of all the businesses and individuals who have been so generous. Please take a few moments to visit our Event Sponsor page and also our Class Sponsor page. Our generous sponsors are a HUGE factor in the popularity and success of the BC Crop For Kids.

NEWSLETTERS

The next edition of our newsletter will be arriving in your inbox in the next 48 hour or so.

As the big date approaches, we're finding that we've got more and more news and details to share. We are doing out best to minimize the impact on your inbox, while at the same time bringing you as much news as possible!

We understand if you don't have time to read the entire newsletter as soon as it arrives. Our suggestion is to save them in a safe place so you can refer back to them when you have a moment.

If you haven't been receiving the newsletters, please let us know. Occasionally we do get notification that emails are bouncing back, and in almost every case its a Hotmail address. For some reason Yahoo and Hotmail don't seem to get along! This goes for replies to individual emails from Hotmail users also. If you have Hotmail and you're not receiving newsletters or replies to your email messages, please contact us with a different email address. We also ask that you try adding bccropforkids@yahoo.ca to your Safe Senders list.

BRING A SMILE TO A CHILD

We are very excited that Scrapbooks & Cards Today has come on board as an event sponsor!!! They are donating a copy of their Fall 2008 issue to each of the goodie bags for our registered crop seat holders, and they are sponsoring a giveaway. Details are below:
BRING A SMILE TO A CHILD

In September, 2007, Scrapbook & Cards Today launched the "Bring a Smile to a Child" campaign in time to support Canada's Scrapbooking Crop for Kids. They asked paper crafters everywhere to make and donate birthday cards, which were then distributed to Children's Hospitals across Canada. Their goal was to ensure that each hospitalized child received a card from hospital staff or caregivers on their birthday. Well, the campaign was SUCH a success that they have decided to continue it throughout 2008. They have now collected over 1,000 cards, and they are still going strong. They would love your help with this campaign! Please make and donate a child's birthday card and drop if off at the BC Crop for Kids regstration/info desk on the weekend of the event. For each card made you will receive a draw ticket for a chance to win a subscription to Scrapbook & Cards Today and other wonderful prizes from their sponsors!

All birthday cards handed in on the weekend of the event will be given to BC Children's Hospital Foundation for the children who use the hospital's facilities.

It's Class Registration day at BC Crop for Kids and there are few things we want you to know before registration opens at 7:00pm PST. We've covered all of these in the recent reminder emails, but we know some of you aren't reading your emails!!!

1. Registered croppers or holders of a Class Pass must have their registration order number handy in order to register for classes. This number is on the original confirmation email that you received when you registered for the event. Remaining class seats will be released to the general public later this summer. You may also sign up for classes at the event, though we recommend that you register early to avoid disappointment.

2. Some classes have been temporarily removed from the schedule because details have not been finalized, or at the request of the sponsor due to logistical issues. When we can be assured that a class will go ahead, we'll add it back to the online store and make an announcement.

3. YOU CAN REGISTER FOR AS MANY CLASSES AS YOU LIKE, but you can only register for one seat per class at a time, one person at a time. To register another person for the same class you must complete the checkout of your class registration and start a new order for the new person. You can order additional class kits for yourself using the same method.

4. If 2 classes you want are in the same time slot, you can register for both, attend one, and take the class kit for the other. All class kits come with detailed written instructions.

5. The class time for "Tis The Season with Piggy Tales" has changed to Sunday, 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The class can now be found here.

6. Payment can be made at checkout using PayPal, or you can mail a cheque to the address provided. Payments must be received and dated within 10 days of registration in order to guarantee your seat in the class. Complete payment instructions are provided at checkout.

*Edited to add:

7. As stated in previous emails to registered attendees, we regret that we are unable to answer emails to the bccropforkids@yahoo.ca address on June 18, as we are busy finalizing classes and prepping the shopping cart for the registration grand opening at 7pm. Inquiries will be answered on June 19. Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks everyone!

CLASS REGISTRATION *COUNTDOWN!!*

GOOD MORNING!

Just 7 days until BC Crop for Kids class registration opens for registered croppers and class pass holders. (what's a class pass? Skip the crop portion of the event, but get full weekend access to the event AND register for classes first, along with the crop-goers. You can purchase your class pass online.)

Class registration begins June 18 at 7pm PST.

Things to note:

1. You MUST have your original crop registration order # handy in order to register. The system will ask for the number, and you won't be able to proceed to checkout without it. This number was on your order confirmation email when you signed up for the BC Crop for Kids crop.

2. If you can't find this number, please email bccropforkids@yahoo.ca BEFORE June 18. We will not be able to respond to emails on June 18 because we'll be busy getting the shopping cart ready to launch at 7pm PST.

3. You will be able to register for multiple classes at one time, but you will only be allowed to register for one seat in each class at a time. If you are registering for a friend you will have to complete your registration and then create a new registration for your friend, in their name.

4. You can register for more than one class in the same time slot. You can't be in 2 places at once, but it does guarantee you a class kit, even if you don't attend the class.

5. As always, you will have 10 days to remit payment for the classes. We will accept Paypal payments, and cheques payable to BC Scrapbooking Crop for Kids.

Most of the classes have been added to the BC Crop for Kids website. Be sure to check back regularly to see the latest additions to the schedule. We are so excited about the buzz these classes have been receiving so far! Please register early to avoid disappointment.

The winner of the BC Crop for Kids FIRST blog challenge is Carla R.

Carla's name was randomly drawn from all those who entered. (even though *officially* there weren't 20 entries, because Sandra's doesn't count! Thanks for playing along everyone. Your responses were fun to read. Enjoy your weekend.

Come play with us! Here's your first chance to win a prize just for visiting the BC Crop for Kids blog. The rules are pretty simple...we'll ask a scrapbook related question, and you'll post your reply in the comments. Here is the question:

What was the most memorable scrapbooking event or retreat you've attended, and WHY?

Here is the prize:

2 packages of Queen & Co. Felt Fusion, self adhesive die cut felt borders (1 yard each)

Sponsoring this challenge is The Memory Workshop, the on-site store for this year's BC Crop for Kids event. The Memory Workshop is a mobile store that specializes in retreats and crops, and also offers one of Canada's most popular monthly kit clubs.
