2. I'm afraid of heights.
3. I cry like a baby...all the time...doesn't take much :)
4. I LOVE organizing...anything
5. I do not like going to the mall

What kind of Camera do you use? Nikon D90

How long have you been scrapping? 9 glorious years!

What got you started? my oldest daughter's Science Fair ribbon back in 2005...attending my first Close To My Heart gathering at a friends and then signing up for a monthly scrapbooking Club with a CTMH Consultant...that got me started and I've been hooked since ;)

12X12, 8 1/2 X 11, or other? 12x12 and multi-pocket pages

When do you feel most creative? anytime usually, but mostly late at night when I should be sleeping!

Are you a fast scrapper or a slow scrapper? I'm fast if I'm motivated (deadlines) and slow if I'm just not feelin' it!

Who are your scrapbooking idols/inspirations? oh boy, tough one...dropping names, Vicki Boutin, Tim Holtz, Kelly Gorree, Summer Fullerton...I'm inspired by patterns and colours and if you give me a challenge or sketch and I'm in heaven...nothing better to get the creative juices flowin' !!!

Favourite Drink/Food/Candy? Coffee/Greek/Chocolate

Meeting more teachers...

We hope you are getting excited about all of our upcoming classes at this year's BC Scrapbooking Crop for Kids event!

We have many more teachers to introduce to you this week so let's meet Sandra Brindley!

(Sandra's on the left! In case you didn't know LOL)

"In 2002, I convinced the owner of a new store to give me a job by dropping off a box of my albums and assuring her that I could teach classes. As time went on, friends would ask me to teach private classes. They asked where to buy the products that I was demonstrating, and from there The Memory Workshop mobile store was born! Soon after, I introduced a successful monthly Kit Club, which is going strong almost 10 years later. As The Memory Workshop evolved, crops and retreats won out over classes, though I’ve never lost the urge to teach the tips and tricks I’ve gathered over the years!"

5 random or funny things about you:

1. There’s no word in the English language that rhymes with Sandra
2. I sleep with socks on year round
3. I’ve never done the Macarena
4. I don’t have a passport
5. I always win staring contests

What kind of Camera do you use? Almost always my iPhone 4s, sometimes a clunky Canon PowerShot

How long have you been scrapping? 14 years

What got you started? I was given a partially finished Creative Memories baby album by my sister in law when my daughter was born. It took about 6 months to get started, but after the first weekend, I was hooked.

12X12, 8 1/2 X 11, or other? Almost always 12x12, but occasionally a mini album for a special occasion.

When do you feel most creative? When I pick up a new stack of freshly developed photos!

Are you a fast scrapper or a slow scrapper? I’d call myself slow, because I’m easily distracted. But some of my most satisfying layouts have been the quick & easy scraplifts.

Who are your scrapbooking idols/inspirations? This is easy!! Summer Fullerton, Kelly Gorree, Cari Locken, Becky Fleck. One of the most motivating people to scrapbook with is Kristine Ponte. And I’d have to say that wayyyy back in the beginning, Becky Higgins’ books had a huge impact.

Favorite Drink/Food/Candy? Margaritas and coffee. Don’t ask me to pick a favourite food. I love all the food!

Favorite Movie/TV Show/Singer/Song? The list is way too long and too eclectic. But I’ll happily watch home reno and design shows all day long. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen Pitch Perfect. And I can’t wait for the new season of Walking Dead to start!

Favorite Hobby (other than scrapbooking)? Gardening & cooking (as long as someone else cleans up). I dabble in knitting and crochet.

Many of you know Sandra as one of the main organizers of this fantastic event...some of you know her from the crops and retreats you've attended around the Lower Mainland and some of you have her wonderful Memory Workshop kits arrive in the mail every month!

We are very fortunate to have the Memory Workshop and Sandra support and sponsor this event every year and this year is no exception!

Sandra is back in the classroom on Saturday, September 27th 11:30-1:30pm with her Everyday Layout Overload class which has been generously sponsored by Elle's Studio and The Memory Workshop.  There will be a tonne of valuable tips, tricks and theory covered in the class that you won't want to miss!

Let's meet Jessie!

This week is all about introducing you to our teachers
at this year's event...so let's meet Jessie Hurley today!

"It all began, as it usually does, with a home party for Stampin' Up! Classes in my dining room followed, Cherish the Thought Scrapbooking was born, and now I travel over the lower mainland spreading the love of this hobby to any who will join me. My poor husband and daughter now find themselves immersed in all things paper, glue, and glitter!"

5 random or funny things about you:

1. I LOVE the word "Cahoots".
2. I LOVE buckets of buttons big enough to stick my hands in...
3. I LOVE that all the things that drove me crazy about my mom, I now do to my daughter!
4. I LOVE the rain...especially on a lazy Sunday morning.
5. I LOVE Hugs! I read once that hugs are the best gift, because one size fits all...and that suits me perfectly!

What kind of Camera do you use? Canon something or other...can't find it at the moment...need to clean my craft space! (Jessie emailed us later with...
found my camera...it's a Canon Powershot G10 !)

How long have you been scrapping? I made my first scrapbook as a guest book for my wedding in 2005. My husband says that scrapbook cost more than the entire wedding as I was at the Scrapbook store EVERY week for more supplies!

What got you started? After the guestbook, I didn't make another scrapbook page until 2008 when I opened a "Scrapbooking" shop and figured I needed some samples up on the walls for inspiration, so I bought my first (of MANY) Memory Workshop Monthly page kit!

12X12, 8 1/2 X 11, or other?
12 x 12 when it comes to pages, but my first love will always mini albums, in various sizes, and the stranger the container it sits in, the better!

When do you feel most creative?
Right after I visit a Scrapbook Store!

Are you a fast scrapper or a slow scrapper? Because I don't scrapbook very often, I'm a slow scrapper, however, as an instructor for card classes, I'm usually under the gun, so I consider myself to be a fast "carder"...

Who are your scrapbooking idols/inspirations? My Scrapbook idols are Jennifer Edwardson, Sandra Brindley and Kristine Ponte, I'm not kidding, if you look through my completed pages, it's Jennifer's & Kristine's classes and Sandra's kits, I LOVE what those ladies create!

Favorite Drink/Food/Candy? Rootbeer & Sour Candies of any sort, yummy!

Favorite Movie/TV Show/Singer/Song? Downtown Abbey has my heart at the moment, and everyone knows Ella Fitzgerald captured my soul with "Someone to watch over me"Favorite Hobby (other than scrapbooking)?
I love miniatures. I have 2 dollhouses in my basement just waiting for a larger house so they can come out and play.

Jessie has been a supporter of BC Scrapbooking Crop for Kids for many years as a teacher, sponsor and attendee and this year we are lucky to have her showcasing her talents with two classes!

Jessie will be instructing Layered Inks Cards on Saturday, Sept. 27th from 9:00-11:00am...Making Memories with Scrapbooking and Local King Rubber Stamp has been generous in sponsoring this class...

Jessie's second class has been sponsored by Memory Workshop and is maybe something you've heard of...Totally Scrapless...Jessie has created exclusive 'maps' where you use 4 sheets of patterned paper and you create 7 - 12x12 pages...join her on Sunday, September 28th 9:00-11:00am and she will show you how she does it!

For more information on all of our classes this year head on over to the BC Scrapbooking Crop for Kids website.

Blowing off the cobwebs....

Oh dear!  We have been neglecting the blog!  What a sad state of affairs. But great things are on the horizon, and you're going to notice visible changes around here!

For starters, the 2014 BC Crop for Kids Team is bigger and badder than ever before, and with a few more helping hands around here, we are looking forward to accomplishing so much in the months leading up to the 2014 event!  Between now and September 26, 2014 we are going to be very busy.

Within the week we are going to reveal:

  • Registration! The registration details, including the price, date and some exciting NEW registration options.
  • Our NEW Team.  Funny thing, even though everyone now has an official role, each one of us has been a part of BC Crop for Kids in some capacity for years -- some of us since the very beginning!  You are going to see some very familiar faces.
  • Our crop THEME. There is no excuse for not having a costume, because we'll be reminding you of the theme in everything we do from now until the doors open!

And over the next couple of months we will be updating you with news about:

  • Our class sponsors.  Pay close attention to who the local stores are and be sure to visit them and shop often. We know you like to support the vendors that support BC Crop for Kids.  This 'pay it forward' philosophy is what keeps our scrapbooking community thriving through the ups and downs of the industry and these financial times.
  • Class Registration.  All our sponsored classes will be revealed closer to summer.
  • Local events supporting BC Crop for Kids.  In the past, some of our local store sponsors have held in-store mini events in support of  BC Crop for Kids and when these happen in the future we will make sure you know about them.
  • New features and activities that we hope to add to the main event.  Believe us when we say that you will be entertained, and you will get your money's worth!
  • Ways that you can be a sponsor. We want to promote and celebrate everyone who makes a donation. We want to put your name in lights! Supporting our cause is a great way to gain local exposure for your business.

Feel free to drop us a line!

You can reach our Team by email at bccropforkids@gmail.com
